St. Louis Zoo in Forest Park

Celebrating over 100 years of entertaining and educating the Missouri public about the planet's creatures, this kid-friendly destination is home to dozens of animal habitats and exotic species. The zoo is divided into special zones to capture the feel of the animals' native lands, and visitors will see everything such as elephants, monkeys, and birds. There are ample opportunities for snacks and souvenirs, and a train ride is a great way to see the grounds. Best of all, admission to the zoo is always free!

FAQs

  • What event made the zoo possible?

In 1904 the World's Fair took place in St. Louis, and the Smithsonian Institution built a beautiful glass birdcage. Instead of tearing it down, the citizens of the city decided to save it, and the St. Louis Zoo grew up around this magnificent structure.
  • How can visitors act with animals up close?

Cheetahs, sea lions, snakes, and penguins are only a few of the species you can interact with when you purchase a special behind-the-scenes tour. Trained zookeepers will take you inside the world of these animals for an awe inspiring way to experience the zoo. Prices range from $12 to $70 depending on the experience, and tours need to be booked at least three weeks in advance. http://www.stlzoo.org/visit/behindthescenestours/touropportunities/
